There are holidays, and then there are journeys where every few hours seem to bring a completely different landscape. For Viral Chandrakant Sejpal and his family, this was very much the second kind. Their 11-day adventure crossed some of East Africa's most spectacular wildlife destinations, taking them from Nairobi and Amboseli to Ngorongoro, Serengeti and Masai Mara.

The family experienced everything from dramatic mountain views and long safari drives to Maasai culture and enormous open grasslands. They also had something particularly important to consider while travelling: finding good vegetarian food throughout the journey. Thankfully, that became one of the pleasant surprises of the trip.

The adventure began in Nairobi before the family headed towards Amboseli National Park, where the scenery immediately started looking like something from a wildlife documentary. Their private 4x4 Land Cruiser carried them into the park, with the famous Mount Kilimanjaro providing an incredible backdrop.

Their first afternoon game drive gave them their introduction to Amboseli's wildlife. The real highlight came with their full-day safari into the Ngorongoro Crater. Descending towards the crater floor placed them inside an extraordinary natural setting, surrounded by dramatic landscapes and rich wildlife habitats. The family had opportunities to look for lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards and rhinos while travelling through the crater.

The experience became even more memorable because of the sheer variety around them. Every stretch of the drive offered a different view, from open plains to rugged terrain. From Ngorongoro, the family continued to the Serengeti National Park, where another two days of safari awaited them. Their afternoon game drive introduced them to the enormous scale of the Serengeti, with its vast plains and rich wildlife.

The next day was dedicated entirely to exploring the park. A full-day game drive meant hours of wildlife spotting, photography and taking in the landscape. The family could look for elephants, buffaloes and other animals while experiencing one of Africa's most iconic wilderness areas.

Masai Mara: The Grand Finale

By the time the family reached Masai Mara, the safari had already taken them through several extraordinary landscapes. Yet the Mara still managed to feel like a fresh chapter. Their three-night stay gave them enough time to explore the reserve through a mix of half-day and full-day game drives.

Their first afternoon introduced them to the sprawling savannah, where the family could look for lions, elephants, giraffes and other wildlife. The landscape seemed to stretch endlessly, making even the drive itself an experience.

The following full-day safari gave them more time to explore. They could look for the Big Five while also keeping an eye out for the reserve's impressive birdlife. With hundreds of bird species found across the region, the safari offered plenty of smaller discoveries alongside the larger animals.

They had the opportunity to learn about Maasai traditions, daily life and the community's connection with the surrounding landscape. Their final half-day game drive gave them one more opportunity to enjoy the Mara. With wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and other wildlife moving across the grasslands, there was plenty to watch before the family eventually began their journey back towards Nairobi.
