Ask anyone who has tried to plan a Bali trip from scratch, and they will tell you the same thing. The island has so much going on across so many different areas that figuring out what to do, in what order, staying where, and how to get between all of it without losing entire days to logistics is genuinely exhausting.

Canggu Was an Interesting Choice to Start
Most Bali itineraries begin in Kuta or Seminyak. Ayushi and Udit started in Canggu, which is the cooler, more laid-back cousin of both, known for its surf breaks, rice field walks, and café culture that pulls in a crowd that wants Bali without the package-holiday feel. Citadines Berawa Beach Bali Hotel was their base for the first four nights, right in the middle of the Berawa area with the beach close by. The first day was for arriving, checking in, and getting a feel for the neighbourhood. Canggu rewards slow mornings, and they had the whole first evening to settle in.
Day two was about Uluwatu
Day two was the Uluwatu sunset tour with the Kecak Fire Dance, and if you have been to Bali and skipped this, you have left something important on the table. The clifftop temple sits above a dramatic stretch of the Indian Ocean's southern coast, and the Kecak performance at sunset, with the dancers moving in firelight and the sea going orange below, is the kind of thing that earns its reputation completely every single time.
Six hours, private transfer, and back to Canggu with the kind of first proper Bali evening that makes the rest of the trip feel comfortable.
Nusa Penida Was the Big One
Day three was Nusa Penida, and this island off Bali's southeast coast has become one of the most talked-about day trips in all of Southeast Asia for good reason. Speedboat from Sanur Harbour across to Toya Pakeh, then a full west island tour covering Kelingking Beach, Angel's Billabong, Broken Bay, and Bubu Beach with snorkelling and local lunch included. Ten and a half hours in total.
Kelingking's cliff looks like a prehistoric animal from the viewpoint above it, with a turquoise beach at the base that takes your breath away even before you attempt the steep path down.
Angel's Billabong is a natural rock pool filled with clear seawater at the island's edge, the kind of place that genuinely looks unreal. The boat back across the strait in the late afternoon, tired and very satisfied, was the right end to the trip's most spectacular day.
A day at Leisure
Day four was eight hours with a private car hire, which is one of the decisions you should make in Bali when you want to explore without following a set route. Canggu has enough around it to fill a day easily, Tanah Lot is close, Seminyak and Legian are just down the road, the rice fields around Pererenan are walkable. A day that belongs entirely to you, to go wherever feels right, is a good mid-trip reset after two packed days. Ayushi and Udit used it well.
Ubud: Volcanoes, Swings, and a Bamboo Villa
Day five was the move to Ubud, with the Kintamani highlands tour on the way. The combo covered Kintamani volcano, the coffee plantation, Tegenungan Waterfall, the Tegalalang Rice Terraces, and the Bali Jungle Swing with unlimited swings and nests, all with local lunch included. Nine hours of it, and the rice terraces in the late morning light with the valley spreading out below are the kind of view that makes you stand very still for a while. Then check in at Resort The Dewi Eco Bamboo Villa in Ubud, a one-bedroom plunge pool villa with a hill view. After four nights in a beach hotel, arriving at a bamboo villa above the Ubud jungle with a private plunge pool is the kind of upgrade that makes the second half of a trip feel like a different holiday entirely.
ATV Through the Ubud Terrain
Day six was a ninety-minute double-sharing ATV ride through the Ubud countryside, combined with a Cretya Ubud entrance ticket. The ATV trails around Ubud go through jungle, river crossings, and rice fields, and the landscape keeps changing fast enough that the ninety minutes feel both exhilarating and slightly too short. Cretya Ubud is a nature-based attraction with infinity pools and jungle walks that made for a full and genuinely varied day before the last evening at the villa.
Day seven was checkout from the bamboo villa and the transfer back to Ngurah Rai, Ubud's green hills visible for a while on the drive down before the airport appeared.

The itinerary structure did a lot of quiet work behind the scenes. Starting in Canggu gave them a slightly different experience from the standard Bali package. Nusa Penida on day three while they were still fresh was the right call. The free car day on day four gave them breathing room. And Ubud for the final two nights, with the bamboo villa and the plunge pool, meant the trip ended on its most memorable note rather than fading out.
