For most people, Bhutan is a place that stays on their bucket list for quite some time before they actually make a booking.

One can easily visit Bhutan, but it is a type of location that usually gets postponed to the next trip. Vikrant ultimately agreed to go there in April, and the feedback he gave was like a sharp line aimed at those who are still undecided.

"If Bhutan is on your bucket list, then I had an amazing experience with Thrillophilia."

An 8-day, 7-night Bhutan trip. Four cities. One hike that he called the main highlight of the trip. And a dzong that earned its own mention because Vikrant is the kind of traveller who notices old buildings and actually stops to look at them.

From Phuntsholing to Tiger's Nest - Vikrant's 8-day journey through Bhutan's valleys, monasteries & mountain passes.

Phuntsholing Was the Entry Point

He arrived at Bagdogra on the 12th of April. The Swift Dzire was waiting. The drive to Phuntsholing along the flat Terai roads takes a couple of hours, and the border town is where Bhutan begins before it properly begins.

The Bhutan Gate, the Zangto Pelri Monastery, and the Torsa River in the evening. A quiet first day by design, because the next morning was the immigration formalities and the drive up into the hills.

Thimphu Came First

Vikrant discovered Bhutan's beauty from one of its most picturesque suspension bridges

Day two was the drive to Thimphu with a stop at Chukha Dam on the way. The dam sits in a gorge, and the scale of it takes a moment to register from the roadside.

Thimphu, in the afternoon, was at leisure. The Royal Botanical Garden, the Ludrong Memorial Garden, and the city are moving at the pace Bhutanese capitals tend to move at. Vikrant had the evening to find his feet before the sightseeing day that followed.

Thimphu's Landmarks and the Drive to Punakha

Day three started with the Thimphu city tour. Tashichho Dzong, the Buddha Dordenma statue at 51 metres sitting above the valley, the National Memorial Chorten, and the Motithang Takin Preserve are all in Thimphu. Then, the journey to Punakha by car through Dochula Pass.

The 108 chortens at Dochula Pass are located at an altitude of about 3,100 metres, and on a clear day in April, the Himalayas lie open behind them. Most travellers end up staying longer than they had originally intended.

Damchen Riverside Resort was a two-night accommodation in Punakha, located near the river.

Gangtey Was the Day Nobody Was Expecting

Every trail in Bhutan tells a story of nature, peace, and tradition

On day four, the main highlight was the excursion to Phobjikha Valley and Gangtey Monastery.

Phobjikha Valley is located at an altitude of over 2,900 metres, and you feel amazed at its width since previously you only saw very narrow river gorges in Punakha. The famous black-necked cranes, which are the symbol of this valley, come here for winter, but in April, the birds have already migrated. What remains is the vastness of the area, the monastery on top of the hill, and the serenity that accompanies a place which most Bhutan travel itineraries consider as an option.

Vikrant made particular reference to Phobjikha Valley in his review. It was evident that it had made an impression.

Punakha Dzong Was the One He Remembered

On day five, Vikrant visited Punakha before setting off for Paro. Our first stop was Punakha Dzong, located at the merging point of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. The dzong was constructed in 1637, and its whitewashed walls plus red roofs perched at the meeting point of two rivers is one of those sights that explain why people fly to Bhutan.

Vikrant is very much into exploring old architecture and ancient buildings, and So, he mentioned that in his feedback. To him, the Punakha Dzong was one of the most memorable attractions of his entire tour. Besides the Chimi Lhakhang temple and the Punakha

Haa Valley Gave Bhutan a Different Texture

Day six was for the Haa Valley trip. The journey to Chele La Pass, the highest drivable pass in Bhutan at 3,988 metres, was quite an experience, with prayer flags fluttering along the ridge and the Himalayan peaks on both sides in clear weather.

The Lhakhang Karpo and Lhakhang Nagpo in Haa Valley date back many centuries and are very peaceful. Not many tourists reach them. Vikrant moved between the temples slowly, which is the right pace for buildings that have been there since before anyone was counting.

Tiger's Nest Was the Day the Trip Built up to

The iconic Tiger's Nest added a touch of magic to Vikrant's Bhutan adventure

Day seven was the Tiger's Nest hike.

Seven kilometres through pine forests on the way up. Prayer flags between the trees.

The Paro Valley came into view and disappeared through the gaps in the hillsides as the path went up. Afterwards, the temple was seen dangling on a rock at an altitude of 3,120 metres, and the fall beneath it was even more intimidating than the pics had shown.

Inside, there were old remains, worship rooms, and paintings that had been updated periodically. Vikrant called the Tiger's Nest the main highlight of his Bhutan tour package. Most people who make the climb agree with him.

Day eight was the drive to Paro Airport and the flight home.

How Thrillophilia Made it Work

The local transfers were private across every leg. SUVs for the mountain roads. An English- and Hindi-speaking guide throughout. The itinerary went smoothly, which was what Vikrant noticed most when he came to write the review.

"The local transfers and everything were hassle-free and smooth. I will give a 10 out of 10 to Thrillophilia and would recommend it to friends and family."

That is the kind of Bhutan trip review that does not need any dressing up.
