“Our recent trip to the Nordic countries—including Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark—arranged through Thrillophilia was nothing short of spectacular. From start to finish, the experience was seamless, immersive, and deeply memorable.”

Planning a Nordic holiday for a group of ten travellers, ranging from a 13-year-old to travellers in their 60s, comes with its own set of challenges. There are multiple countries to connect, different cities to navigate, long travel days to balance with sightseeing, and an endless list of landscapes and experiences competing for space on the itinerary.

For Amit Agarwala and his group, the answer was a 12-day journey through five Nordic countries, bringing together Iceland's otherworldly landscapes, Finland's calm urban charm, Sweden's historic streets, Norway's dramatic fjords and Denmark's Scandinavian character. The trip moved between natural wonders and city experiences, giving the group a chance to see just how dramatically the Nordic landscape can change from one country to the next.

From the surreal waters of the Blue Lagoon to the cobbled lanes of Stockholm's Gamla Stan and the immense landscapes of Norway's fjords, the group encountered scenery that seemed almost too perfect to be real. Along the way, comfortable stays, well-paced tours, local guides and thoughtful coordination kept the journey moving smoothly.

Here’s how Amit and his group experienced the Nordic wonders over 12 unforgettable days.

Postcards from Iceland

Amit admired the stunning volcanic crater lake during his Nordic adventure

Iceland was where the group's Nordic adventure took on an almost otherworldly quality. Reykjavik gave them their first glimpse of Icelandic life, but it was the country's dramatic natural setting that really made an impression. Volcanic landscapes, open coastlines and the cool summer air created a setting that felt completely different from the European cities they would encounter later.

One of the group's most memorable experiences came on the water. Amit and his fellow travellers headed out from Reykjavik on a RIB whale-watching tour across Faxaflói Bay. The fast boat brought them out into the open water in search of whales, while the coastline of Reykjavik gradually unfolded behind them. The experience also included a visit around Akurey Island, where the group could spot puffins during the summer months.

Then came the Blue Lagoon, one of those Iceland experiences that feels almost impossible until you are standing inside it. The milky-blue geothermal water stood in striking contrast to the dark volcanic surroundings, giving the group a chance to relax while surrounded by one of Iceland's most distinctive landscapes. Between the ocean, wildlife and geothermal scenery, Iceland gave Amit's group an unforgettable first postcard from the Nordics.

Postcards from Finland

Helsinki brought a completely different rhythm. After Iceland's dramatic wilderness, Finland felt composed and elegant, with clean-lined architecture, waterfront views and a calm city atmosphere that made exploring at a leisurely pace especially enjoyable.

The group spent time discovering Helsinki and taking in its distinctly Nordic character. The city's relationship with the Baltic Sea was never far away, while its streets displayed historic buildings with modern Scandinavian design. With three days allocated to Helsinki on the wider Best of Nordic itinerary, the city had room to breathe rather than becoming a rushed stop between countries.

For a group travelling together across such a packed international itinerary, Helsinki also became an important pause in the journey. Amit's appreciation for the comfortable, well-located accommodation here fits naturally with the experience. It was a city where the group could wander, photograph the architecture, enjoy the waterfront atmosphere and settle into the slower Scandinavian pace before continuing towards Sweden.

Postcards from Sweden

Amit enjoyed an exciting boat adventure with his group during their Nordic trip

Stockholm arrived with an entirely different visual language. Built across islands and surrounded by water, the Swedish capital combines elegant architecture, historic neighbourhoods and a distinctly modern Scandinavian atmosphere.

For Amit's group, Gamla Stan became one of the most memorable corners of Stockholm. Its narrow cobbled lanes, colourful façades and old-world architecture created exactly the kind of setting where simply walking around becomes part of the sightseeing. Every turn offered another picturesque street, historic building or glimpse towards the water. Amit specifically remembered the “charming cobbled streets of Gamla Stan in Stockholm,” and it is easy to understand why.

Stockholm also added cultural depth to the journey. Instead of experiencing Sweden simply as another stop on a multi-country route, the group had time to appreciate the city's history, architecture and everyday Scandinavian character. After the geothermal landscapes of Iceland and the calm urbanity of Helsinki, Stockholm felt warmer, older and wonderfully atmospheric.

Postcards from Norway

Norway was where the scale of the landscape became almost overwhelming.

The transition from Scandinavian cities into Norway's mountainous terrain changed the entire mood of the journey. Suddenly, the horizon was dominated by enormous mountains, deep blue waterways and dramatic valleys. The country's fjords created the kind of scenery that makes you instinctively reach for your phone, even when you know the photograph will never quite capture what you are seeing.

The journey included time in Oslo and Bergen, two cities that offer very different introductions to Norway. The broader Best of Nordic itinerary gives two days to Oslo and two to Bergen, allowing travellers to experience both the country's urban and natural sides.

But it was the fjords that became the defining memory. Amit described them as “pristine fjords of Norway”, calling the moments there picture-perfect. Around Bergen, the landscape becomes especially dramatic, with mountains dropping towards waterways and small settlements appearing between vast stretches of wilderness. The experience was enhanced by local guides who could explain the geography and stories behind the places instead of simply pointing out viewpoints.

For a group that had already crossed several countries, Norway managed to create that rare feeling of discovering something completely new again.

Postcards from Denmark

Copenhagen brought the journey towards its final stretch with a distinctly Scandinavian charm of its own. After Iceland's wild landscapes, Helsinki's quiet streets, Stockholm's historic old town and Norway's mountains and fjords, Denmark offered another interpretation of Nordic life.

The city is made for leisurely exploration, with colourful waterfront buildings, elegant architecture, pedestrian-friendly streets and a relaxed atmosphere that encourages you to wander without constantly checking the clock. Copenhagen forms a substantial part of the wider Best of Nordic route, with three days dedicated to experiencing the Danish capital.

For Amit's group, Denmark completed the visual journey beautifully. By this point, they had seen how dramatically the Nordic region could change from one country to another, yet the Scandinavian sense of design, order and connection with nature remained beautifully consistent. Copenhagen gave them one final city to photograph, explore and enjoy before the journey home.

And after twelve days, five countries and an extraordinary collection of landscapes, Amit's group had exactly what he said they would return with: hearts full of memories and phones full of breathtaking photos.

Why Amit Recommends His Nordic Journey with Thrillophilia

With Karan Sharma, Nordic Destination Expert at Thrillophilia, helping coordinate the journey, Amit and his group of ten travellers could focus on enjoying five Nordic countries. The group included travellers aged from 13 to 69, so comfortable hotels, sensible pacing, dependable transfers and well-organised sightseeing mattered just as much as the destinations themselves. Amit felt that the journey managed to bring all of these elements together, allowing the group to enjoy the trip rather than spend their time figuring out the next transfer or activity.

He particularly appreciated the attention given to the smaller details, describing how “the hotel accommodations were comfortable and well-located, especially in Reykjavik, Helsinki, and Iceland. The daily tours and activities were well-paced, informative, and professionally managed. We especially appreciated the attention to detail, like early check-ins, group-friendly transport, and local guides who brought each location to life with fascinating stories and facts.”

This thoughtful coordination gave the group enough time to enjoy each destination while still covering an impressive amount across the journey. By the end, the experience had become exactly what Amit had hoped a Nordic holiday would be. As he put it, “We return with hearts full of memories, phones full of breathtaking photos, and a strong recommendation for anyone planning a Nordic escape: choose Thrillophilia; you’ll be in excellent hands.”

For the Thrillophilia team, and especially Karan Sharma, feedback like this is a wonderful reminder of what thoughtful planning can add to a journey, turning a complex multi-country Nordic itinerary into a smooth, comfortable and memorable experience for the entire group.
