It all began, as any family trip usually does, with a short conversation over dinner. Binoy Kamal Dutta had been planning on taking a vacation for quite some time. Day two belonged to the Burj Khalifa. The family started with a city tour through Deira and Bur Dubai, the old quarters where Dubai's history hides between the spice stalls and the creek. The guide was patient with his mother's endless questions, and the coach was comfortable enough for his father's tired knees.

But the real moment came in the afternoon. Standing at the base of the world's tallest building, Binoy watched his daughter tilt her head all the way back and still not see the top. On the 124th floor, she pressed both palms against the glass and went completely silent, the rarest thing in the world. 

The following day brought a softer pace. The Dubai Dolphinarium had his mother clapping like a schoolgirl every time a dolphin leapt. The Dubai Frame, which Binoy had almost dismissed as a tourist gimmick, turned out to be quietly moving - a literal frame that holds old Dubai on one side and new Dubai on the other. And the Museum of the Future, with its gleaming Arabic calligraphy curling across its façade, left his daughter convinced that she would, one day, become a scientist.

Flowers, Sand, and a Sky Full of Stars

Day five was all colour. The Miracle Garden was a riot of blooms, and his wife took photo after photo, laughing at how impossible it all looked. By evening, the family wandered through Global Village, hopping between country pavilions like passport stamps come to life — Turkish ice cream here, an Egyptian lamp there, a Filipino dessert his daughter refused to share.

Day six began at The View at the Palm, with the curving petals of Palm Jumeirah spread out below them like an artist's sketch. But it was the desert safari that evening that none of them would forget. The dune bashing made his mother squeal with terror and joy in the same breath. The BBQ dinner under an open sky, with belly dancers and tanoura performers spinning under string lights, turned into the kind of night where his father, who hadn't danced in twenty years, clapped along to every beat.
