Seven days in Ladakh gave sisters Adya and Dwaitha the opportunity to experience some of the most dramatic landscapes in the Himalayas, but the journey quickly became about much more than the places marked on their itinerary.

From the moment they landed in Leh, Ladakh felt different. The mountains appeared larger, the skies seemed wider, and every road disappeared into a landscape that looked almost untouched. Over the next week, the sisters travelled through high-altitude passes, remote villages, ancient monasteries, and vast valleys that changed character with every passing day.

Nubra Valley and Turtuk Revealed Ladakh's Most Unexpected Side

The journey towards Nubra Valley began with one of Ladakh's most famous experiences: crossing Khardung La.

As the road climbed higher into the mountains, the scenery transformed dramatically. Snow-covered peaks surrounded the route while deep valleys stretched far below. Every turn seemed to reveal another viewpoint worth stopping for.

As Adya shared:

"It was an amazing team, well coordinated and amazing overall. There are no words to explain it. They were so good at giving precautions and taking care of us; everything was well done, and we really enjoyed it."

Beyond the pass, Ladakh surprised the sisters yet again.

Nubra Valley felt completely different from Leh. The landscape opened into a vast, cold desert where rolling dunes existed alongside rivers and mountains. At Hunder, they experienced one of the region's most unusual sights: double-humped Bactrian camels walking across dunes framed by towering Himalayan peaks.

The following day brought one of the most memorable experiences of the trip, a visit to Turtuk.

Located close to the Indo-Pak border, Turtuk feels unlike anywhere else in Ladakh. The village is surrounded by apricot orchards, narrow pathways, stone houses, and streams flowing through the settlement. Walking through the village allowed the sisters to experience the culture of the Balti community while taking in views of the Karakoram landscape surrounding them.

It was the kind of place that felt less like a tourist attraction and more like a hidden discovery.

Pangong Lake Delivered the Moment They Had Been Waiting For

Some places build a reputation through photographs.

Pangong Lake somehow manages to exceed them.

The drive from Nubra towards Pangong followed the Shyok River through remote stretches of Ladakh, where mountains seemed to rise endlessly on either side of the road. Villages appeared occasionally before disappearing back into the vastness of the landscape.

Then came the first glimpse of the lake.

The water shifted between shades of blue depending on the light, while the surrounding mountains created a dramatic backdrop that made the entire setting feel unreal. Rather than rushing through the experience, the sisters spent time simply taking in the view and watching the colours change across the lake throughout the day.

As the evening settled over Pangong, the atmosphere became even more special.

Far away from city lights, the night sky revealed countless stars overhead while the silence of the mountains settled around the campsite. It was one of those rare travel moments that photographs never fully capture.

Chang La, Thiksey, and the Journey Back to Leh

The return journey to Leh proved that Ladakh still had more to offer.

Crossing Chang La Pass brought another spectacular mountain drive, with winding roads climbing through rugged terrain before opening towards sweeping Himalayan views. Along the way, the sisters stopped at the famous Rancho School, known from 3 Idiots, before continuing towards one of Ladakh's most beautiful monasteries.

Perched on a hill overlooking the valley, Thiksey Monastery offered a completely different experience from the dramatic roads and landscapes of previous days.

The whitewashed structure stood against the mountains while prayer halls, Buddhist artwork, and panoramic views created an atmosphere of peace and reflection. After days spent exploring some of Ladakh's wildest terrain, it felt like the perfect place to slow down and absorb everything they had experienced.
