Eight days. Three friends. Hundreds of kilometres of open roads which cut through some of the most dramatic landscapes in the Himalayas.
For Ashish Maheta, Nisarg Doshi, and Luv Shah, Ladakh unfolded from the seat of a Royal Enfield, where every day brought a new mountain pass, a different valley, and another reason to pull over just to take in the view. From the cold deserts of Nubra and the blue waters of Pangong to the remote landscapes of Hanle and Umling La, the journey carried them through places that felt bigger, wilder, and more spectacular than anything they had imagined.
With Thrillophilia handling the planning, the friends spent eight days doing what every Ladakh rider hopes to do, following the road wherever it led and enjoying every kilometre along the way.
Hanle and Umling La Showed Them a Different Side of Ladakh
By the time the friends reached Hanle, they had already crossed Khardung La, explored Nubra Valley, and experienced Pangong Lake. Yet Ladakh still had one of its most remarkable chapters waiting.
The road towards Hanle felt noticeably different from the busier tourist circuits. Traffic became scarce, settlements grew farther apart, and the landscapes appeared even more vast and untouched. Passing through Chushul and stopping at the Rezang La War Memorial added a sense of history to the journey, reminding them that these remote valleys have witnessed some of the most significant chapters of India's border history.
Hanle itself felt almost otherworldly.
Surrounded by mountains and open skies, the village offered a sense of isolation that is increasingly rare to find. The visit to the Indian Astronomical Observatory, one of the highest observatories in the world, only reinforced that feeling. Standing in a place dedicated to studying the stars somehow felt perfectly suited to a destination where the sky appears endless.
Then came Umling La.
At over 5,800 metres above sea level, the pass is recognised as the world's highest motorable road. The ride itself was as rewarding as the destination. The roads climbed steadily through barren landscapes while the surrounding mountains stretched endlessly towards the horizon. Reaching the top wasn't simply about ticking off a landmark. It brought a genuine sense of accomplishment.
For three friends who had spent days navigating Ladakh's terrain together, Umling La felt like one of those moments that naturally become part of the stories told long after the trip is over.
The Day Pangong Became More Than Just a Photograph

Every Ladakh itinerary eventually leads to Pangong Lake.
The challenge is that most travellers arrive with expectations already shaped by photographs.
Ashish, Nisarg, and Luv discovered that the reality was even better.
The ride from Nubra towards Pangong took them through the dramatic landscapes of the Shyok Valley, where rugged mountains and winding roads created a constantly changing backdrop. Every few kilometres seemed to reveal another view worth stopping for.
Then the lake appeared.
The first glimpse of Pangong's blue waters against the mountains is one of those moments that immediately justifies the long journey required to reach it. The three friends spent their time exploring the shoreline, taking photographs, and enjoying the atmosphere that has made Pangong one of Ladakh's most iconic destinations.
Like countless travellers before them, they couldn't resist recreating the famous "All Is Well" moment that has become synonymous with the lake. But beyond the photographs, it was the experience of spending an evening beside Pangong that stayed with them. As daylight faded, the lake changed colours, the mountains reflected on the water, and the entire landscape seemed to slow down.
Later that night, under Ladakh's star-filled sky, the campsite offered a completely different experience from the busy tourist spots encountered during the day.
When the Ride Became the Highlight

One of the biggest surprises of the trip was how often the journey itself became the most memorable part of the day.
The ride through Sham Valley introduced the group to some of Ladakh's most famous landmarks, including the Sangam of the Indus and Zanskar rivers, the Magnetic Hill, the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, and the Hall of Fame. Yet what stood out most was the experience of riding through the region rather than simply stopping at attractions.
The same feeling continued throughout the trip.
The climb towards Khardung La, the roads winding through Nubra Valley, the remote stretches leading towards Hanle, and the long rides back to Leh all revealed different sides of Ladakh. The landscapes never seemed to repeat themselves. Cold deserts gave way to river valleys, barren mountains suddenly opened into green meadows, and every pass seemed to introduce another version of the region.
Travelling on motorcycles made those transitions feel even more immersive. Instead of observing Ladakh through a window, the friends experienced every change in altitude, temperature, and scenery as it happened.
Why Ashish Recommends Thrillophilia for Ladakh
For Ashish, the success of the trip came down to more than the destinations alone.
Planning a motorcycle journey through Ladakh involves multiple moving parts: accommodation, permits, support teams, route planning, transportation, and local coordination. Having those details handled well allowed the group to focus entirely on the experience.
The trip was planned by Shivangi Dwivedi and brought together Ladakh's iconic highlights with destinations like Hanle and Umling La that offered a deeper look into the region.
Reflecting on the experience, Ashish shared:
"I recently completed a Leh-Ladakh trip organised by Thrillophilia, and it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. From the moment we landed to the final goodbye, everything was well-coordinated and thoughtfully planned. The itinerary was perfectly balanced between adventure, sightseeing, and relaxation. We covered all the major highlights, including Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley, Khardung La, and more, without feeling rushed. The local guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to help. Their insights added depth to the experience."
Eight days later, the three friends returned home with photographs of mountain passes, lakes, monasteries, and endless roads. More importantly, they returned with memories of the ride itself, the kind that make Ladakh feel less like a destination and more like an adventure lived one kilometre at a time.
