For Aarti and Mohan, travelling has always been less about ticking destinations off a list and more about experiencing places at their own pace. Over the years, they've learnt that every journey leaves behind a different kind of memory. Sometimes it's a beautiful view, sometimes it's an unexpected conversation, and sometimes it's simply the joy of waking up somewhere completely new.

When Meghalaya entered the conversation, neither of them needed much convincing. The thought of all those mist-covered hills, waterfalls hidden inside forests, living root bridges that had stood for generations, and roads winding through the clouds was enough reason to pack their bags. What followed over the next seven days wasn't just another holiday, but one that constantly surprised them with how much there was to see, experience, and admire.

Looking back, Aarti described it best:

"Well-organised trip, very thrilling and enjoyed each and every day."

The Road to Cherrapunji

The family soaked in Meghalaya's tranquil charm

After arriving in Guwahati, the journey began with a scenic drive towards Kaziranga before continuing deeper into Meghalaya. The roads gradually became greener, the air cooler, and every few kilometres revealed another landscape worth stopping for.

On the way to Cherrapunji, Elephant Falls offered the perfect introduction to the state's natural beauty. Surrounded by dense greenery and the constant sound of flowing water, it felt like the kind of place where nobody was in a hurry to leave. By the time they reached Cherrapunji, they had already realised that Meghalaya wasn't a destination you rushed through. It was one you slowly absorbed.

As Mohan later remarked, "The drives themselves became part of the holiday. We never felt like we were just travelling between places."

Walking to the Living Root Bridges

Aarti and family enjoyed Meghalaya's peaceful moments

The highlight of this Thrillophilia itinerary arrived with the trek to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge at Nongriat.

The trail really demanded patience, but neither Aarti nor Mohan saw that as a challenge. Instead, it became part of the experience. Stone steps, suspension bridges, flowing streams, and dense forests slowly led them towards one of Meghalaya's most extraordinary sights. Standing before a bridge patiently shaped by nature over generations felt far more rewarding because they had walked every step to reach it.

The following days continued with Shillong's peaceful charm before the journey moved towards Dawki via Mawlynnong. The crystal-clear Umngot River looked almost unreal, while the nearby Single Decker Living Root Bridge showed yet another example of how closely nature and local life are connected in Meghalaya.

One moment from the journey stayed with Aarti in particular. "There wasn't a single day where we felt exhausted or rushed. We could enjoy every place properly and still look forward to what came next."

Shillong, Dawki and One Last Stop in Guwahati

A beautiful family getaway in the heart of Meghalaya

The drive back through Jowai offered one final opportunity to soak in Meghalaya's rolling hills before returning to Shillong. Every bend in the road seemed to open up another beautiful valley, making even the longest drives feel enjoyable.

Before flying home, they visited the revered Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, bringing the journey to a peaceful close. It felt like the perfect ending to a week filled with waterfalls, forests, mountain roads, and countless quiet moments spent appreciating nature together.

By then, Meghalaya had already become much more than a destination. It had become one of those trips that continues to come up in conversations long after it's over.

How Thrillophilia Brought It All Together

When asked how the trip unfolded, Aarti and Mohan spoke about the waterfalls, the root bridges, the winding roads, and the beautiful landscapes they had witnessed. But there was one thing they both agreed on: how relaxed they felt throughout the journey.

Knowing that Thrillophilia had already taken care of the hotels, transfers, and day-to-day planning meant they never had to worry about the logistics. Instead, they could simply enjoy the drive, stop for photos whenever they wanted, and take in each destination without constantly thinking about what came next.

And then, there was the well-paced itinerary that gave them enough time to explore every destination without feeling like they had to constantly rush to the next stop. For a destination like Meghalaya, where some of the best experiences happen on the road itself, that made all the difference.

As Aarti later shared, "With Thrillophilia, everything was planned so smoothly that we could simply enjoy the journey without worrying about anything else."

By the time they returned home, it wasn't just the 1000s of photographs of living root bridges, rivers, or the hills they carried back with them. It was the feeling of a week well spent, filled with beautiful places, long conversations, and memories they knew they'd look back on for years.
