A seven-day holiday through Sikkim and Darjeeling gave Sanchala and her family a lovely mix of mountain scenery, peaceful monasteries, famous viewpoints and long scenic drives. Travelling together as a group of five, they moved through Gangtok, Pelling and Darjeeling, with each destination bringing a different experience.

Visit to Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir

The trip began with a drive from Bagdogra Airport towards Gangtok. The busy plains gradually gave way to winding mountain roads, forested hills and views of the valleys below. By the time the group reached Greendale Residence in Gangtok, they had already had their first taste of the Himalayan landscape.

Their big Gangtok experience came the following morning when they set out for Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir. The private Innova/Xylo transfer made the seven-hour excursion comfortable for the group, especially with the roads climbing steadily into the higher reaches of Sikkim.

Tsomgo Lake was the first major highlight. Sitting at a high altitude and surrounded by mountains, the lake looked completely different from the greenery they had seen on the way up. The group spent time taking photographs and enjoying the crisp mountain air before continuing towards Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple.

The temple brought a different side to the day. The story of Baba Harbhajan Singh and the strong connection the shrine has with the Indian Army made the visit particularly interesting. The surrounding mountains added to the atmosphere, and the group took their time exploring the site before heading back to Gangtok.

The return drive gave them another chance to enjoy the changing scenery before settling in for the evening.

Pelling Sightseeing Tour

The journey from Gangtok to Pelling was an experience in itself. The group travelled by private Innova/Xylo, taking a stop at Ravangla along the way. Their visit to Buddha Park brought them face-to-face with the enormous 130-foot Shakyamuni Buddha statue, set against the surrounding hills.

The road continued towards Pelling through beautiful mountain landscapes. The group could catch glimpses of Kanchenjunga along the way, making the drive feel like a sightseeing experience rather than simply a transfer. Once they reached Jain Group Hotel Sonamchen, they settled in for two nights.

Their full day in Pelling covered a little bit of everything. They explored the historic Rabdentse Ruins, where old stone structures sit among dense greenery, before visiting Pemayangtse Monastery. The peaceful monastery offered a quieter moment in the middle of a packed sightseeing day.

Rimbi Waterfalls brought them back into nature. The sound of rushing water and the surrounding greenery made it an easy spot to pause and take photographs. The group continued to Khecheopalri Monastery and the beautiful Khecheopalri Lake, a sacred lake surrounded by thick forest and associated with local beliefs about wishes.

They also visited Sidkeong Bird Park before heading to the Pelling Sky Walk. The glass walkway offered sweeping views of the surrounding hills and valleys, giving the family a fun way to end their sightseeing.

By the time their private transfer brought them back to the hotel, Pelling had given them a full day of history, culture and mountain scenery.

Darjeeling Sightseeing Tour

The drive from Pelling to Darjeeling brought another change in scenery. Tea plantations began appearing along the hillsides as the group made their way towards the famous hill town. After checking into Silver Star Boutique Hotel, they had the evening to relax and explore at their own pace.

Their main Darjeeling sightseeing day started early with Tiger Hill. The group reached the viewpoint in time for sunrise, waiting as the sky gradually brightened over the Himalayas. Kanchenjunga slowly appeared against the morning sky, creating the kind of view that makes an early start completely worthwhile.

The rest of the day brought a mix of Darjeeling's most recognisable attractions. At Batasia Loop, they watched the famous railway track curve through the landscaped area while the mountains formed the backdrop. Ghoom Monastery brought a peaceful break from sightseeing, while the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute offered a glimpse into the region's mountaineering legacy.

They also visited Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and the Tibetan Refugee Centre, experiencing another side of Darjeeling's culture and local life. Travelling together in their private vehicle meant the group could move comfortably between the different attractions before returning to their hotel.
