Glacial Waters and Border Passes in Gangtok

Bhuvana enjoyed the scenic beauty of Sikkim with peaceful riverside & stunning mountain views in the background

Bhuvana’s six-day mountain trip started when she landed at Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway Station. Her driver welcomed her at the arrival gate, helped with her bags, and started the scenic drive along the winding Teesta River toward Gangtok. Stopping near Kalimpong along the way, she enjoyed the peaceful views of the green river valley and watched the rushing waters before continuing up into the pine hills toward Sikkim’s capital city. After arriving in Gangtok and checking into her hotel room, she spent a relaxed evening walking along MG Marg, a popular pedestrian street full of local shops, warm cafes, and friendly local people.

The second day included one of the biggest highlights of the entire trip: an early morning excursion to Tsomgo Lake, also called Changu Lake. Located high up in the mountains at an elevation of over 12,000 feet above sea level, this natural glacial lake reflected the surrounding snow-covered peaks in its clear blue water. Bhuvana walked along the scenic lakeside paths, taking photos of the decorated yaks and taking in the fresh mountain air. After spending time by the water, she visited Baba Mandir, a famous temple built in honor of an Indian soldier, learning about its history and legends before driving back down to Gangtok for a cozy night's stay.

Traversing North Sikkim to the Valley of Flowers

Bhuvana explored North Sikkim’s scenic trails, walking beneath colourful prayer flags surrounded by lush forests and breathtaking mountain views

On the third morning, Bhuvana traveled deeper into North Sikkim along a scenic mountain highway heading toward the quiet town of Lachung. The long road trip was filled with breathtaking views of tall waterfalls cascading down green cliffs, including stops at Bhim Nala Waterfall, Naga Falls, and Twin Falls. She also stopped at the town of Chungthang to see a sacred rock marked with a famous footprint of Guru Padmasambhava. Arriving in the peaceful mountain village of Lachung by evening, she checked into her hotel and enjoyed a warm, delicious traditional dinner prepared by the hospitable hotel staff.

The fourth day brought the second major highlight of her vacation: visiting Yumthang Valley, also known far and wide as the "Valley of Flowers." Sitting at 11,800 feet above sea level, this wide alpine valley was full of colorful wildflowers, green grass, grazing yaks, and towering snow-topped mountain peaks. She spent a good amount of time sitting on the grassy meadows and admiring the flower for a long time. The Yumthang River flowing in front of them hummed a peaceful tune that can only be heard in silence. On the way back to Lachung, Bhuvana stopped by the natural hot springs, which are famous for their warm mineral-rich water. Although she could not take a dip here this time, she left with a promise to come back again. After a good night's rest, a hearty breakfast, and a smooth return drive back to Gangtok on the fifth day, her six-day journey ended on the final morning with a timely drop-off at the airport, leaving her with wonderful memories of her time in Sikkim.
