Some destinations surprise you more than you expect them to. Vietnam was that destination for the Natarajan family, and the 6 days in Vietnam gave them an excellent experience. 

Shraddha, Natarajan Visweswaran, and their daughter Aditi traveled from Bangalore in late March 2026, six days across Hanoi and Da Nang, and came back with the kind of enthusiasm that only a trip that genuinely delivers produces. "It was a great and memorable experience," Shraddha said. "We will definitely remember it for a lifetime."

Three people, two cities, one country that kept impressing them around every corner.

Landing in Hanoi

They flew out of Kempegowda International Airport on the 28th of March, landing at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi in the afternoon after a ten-hour forty-minute journey. The first day was for settling in, and the second day was theirs to explore Hanoi.

Hanoi is one of the cities that rewards slow walking more than it rewards any planned itinerary. The Old Quarter, with its 36 streets each historically dedicated to a different trade, the street food that spills out onto the pavements at every hour, the lakes around which the city seems to breathe. Hoan Kiem Lake and the red bridge to Ngoc Son Temple on the small island in the middle of it. "Hanoi was such a cultural and nice place, so colorful," Shraddha said, and that is exactly the right way to describe a city that has been layered with centuries of history and manages to wear it all at once without feeling heavy.

The Hanoi leg also included what became the undisputed highlight of the entire trip. "I really like Halong Bay to be one of the best," Shraddha said, and anyone who has been out on those waters understands completely. Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is about four hours from Hanoi and covers around 1,500 kilometres of the Gulf of Tonkin with over 1,600 limestone islands and islets rising from the water.

Flying to Da Nang

On the third day, they flew from Hanoi to Da Nang, dropping down into central Vietnam and a completely different landscape and texture. Da Nang sits between the mountains and the South China Sea, and the shift from the northern city energy of Hanoi to the coastal openness of Da Nang is striking. The next two days were at leisure, which gave them time to explore the city and its surroundings at their own pace.

Da Nang's beaches are some of the best in Vietnam, long stretches of white sand with the Marble Mountains rising from the flat coastal plain behind them. Hoi An, the ancient trading port town, is about half an hour south and is one of those places that looks exactly like its photographs and still manages to feel like a genuine discovery when you walk its lantern-lit streets for the first time. "Hana was really beautiful, south of Vietnam, and especially the banana hits," Shraddha said, capturing the warmth and colour of Hoi An in a very personal way. The cuisine in Da Nang and Hoi An together is some of the best in Vietnam, and a family with a teenage daughter has plenty of options to work with across two full leisure days.

The sixth day was the flight back to Bangalore, Da Nang to Kempegowda, and the trip home with a lot to talk about on the way.
