The beauty of the Himalayas does not comprise only of the mountains. The winding roads, glacial lakes, shrill temperatures, and mist-shrouded tea gardens contribute as much. The Eastern Himalayas of Sikkim and Darjeeling promises travellers an unforgettable alpine adventure. So, when a group of four friends set off from Mumbai for a ten-day journey across Sikkim and West Bengal, having a fully planned itinerary with Thrillophilia proved to be highly beneficial. We had included private transfers in their itinerary, which ensured that every leg of their mountain road trip ran smoothly. From standing amidst pristine white snow at high-altitude passes and visiting sacred glacial lakes to watching the sunrise over Mount Kanchenjunga, the group enjoyed a seamless holiday filled with spectacular landscapes and rich Himalayan culture.

Executing a multi-region mountain circuit across Gangtok, Lachen, Lachung, Pelling, and Darjeeling demands careful coordination, dynamic high-altitude permits, and reliable vehicle arrangements. Thrillophilia organized a spacious private SUV with a dedicated driver cum guide, making long drives along steep valley roads comfortable and secure. With pre-arranged permits for restricted border zones, cozy hotel stays including all meals in the remote northern hamlets, and attentive support throughout, the group experienced a completely hassle-free holiday that allowed them to immerse themselves entirely in the beauty of the mountains.

Pleased with the seamless driver coordination, timely permit arrangements, and excellent overall service, the travelers shared their feedback:

"Very good service. Definitely recommend."

Glacial Lakes, Snowy Valleys, and Northern Mountain Peaks

The mountain journey began as the group arrived at Bagdogra Airport, taking a scenic drive alongside the roaring Teesta River to reach Gangtok for their first evening. On the second day, after a hearty breakfast, they drove up to the frozen shores of Tsomgo Lake at 3,780 metres, taking in the crisp mountain air and visiting the nearby Baba Mandir shrine. Day three carried the friends further north towards Lachen, passing through Chungthang town where the Lachen Chu and Lachung Chu rivers meet amidst snow-capped peaks and alpine meadows.

On the fourth morning, the group set off early for Gurudongmar Lake, one of the highest accessible lakes in the world. Surrounded by dramatic mountain views, the friends were thrilled to see pristine white snow covering the surrounding terrain. After stopping at Bhim Nala Waterfall, they continued to Lachung. The serene atmosphere and alpine views of the place mesmerised the group. They spent the day in leisure there, exploring the village markets and the roads. The next day they set out to explore the colorful Yumthang Valley of Flowers and the Zero point. The friends spent time taking in the high-altitude landscapes, pristine snowfields, and warm thermal springs before returning smoothly to Gangtok for the night.

Sacred Pelling Lakes, Tea Gardens, and Sunrise Over Kanchenjunga

Day six began with them enjoying a scenic transfer from East to West Sikkim, stopping at Ravangla's Buddha Park to admire the giant 130-foot Shakyamuni Buddha statue before reaching Pelling. On the seventh day, the friends visited the sacred Khecheopalri Lake, Rimbi Waterfalls, and the historic Rabdentse Ruins, exploring ancient monasteries and peaceful orange gardens. These were some of the most remote places in West Sikkim, and the on-ground support ensured that they did not face any challenges. On the eighth day, they drove through mountain roads lined with lush green tea plantations to reach the charming hill town of Darjeeling, spending their evening walking along Mall Road.

The ninth day started at dawn with an early morning drive up Tiger Hill, where the friends watched the first golden rays of sun light up Mount Kanchenjunga. They spent the rest of the day visiting Batasia Loop, Ghoom Monastery, and local tea estates, sampling world-famous Darjeeling tea. That evening they dined and danced in Mall Road, enjoying the chilly weather and the vibrant atmosphere. On their tenth morning, a private transfer brought the group back to Bagdogra Airport for their return flight to Mumbai. The meticulous planning, reliable SUV transport, and dedicated ground support provided the group with an inspiring, comfortable, and deeply cherished Himalayan adventure.
