Nikita and Manas knew they wanted a group trip to Ladakh for quite some time now, but what they didn’t know yet was who to choose to take care of all the trip logistics that comes with a Ladakh trip.

After exploring multiple options, Nikita finally came upon a Ladakh itinerary by Thrillophilia, and after going through their reviews and feedback by other travellers, decided to request a call with their travel experts.

Manas, although he liked the itinerary, saw that it didn’t cover Umling La, the world’s highest motorable pass and something that he had wished to explore ever since the probable Ladakh trip’s idea came up. But with a ‘request callback’ option which connected them to Vivek, their primary POC at Thrillophilia, that wish turned into a reality around which the entire trip was carefully planned.

Vivek started coordinating the trip with a curated team of planning and execution, with Umling La as a personalised addition to their itinerary. With preparatory measures like availability checks, ensuring backup vehicles and easy accessibility for staple mountain-trip amenities, their 8 days across Ladakh were sorted entirely.

All that remained for Nikita and Manas was to go ahead on the trip with a clear and relaxed mind, knowing that the team is there to support them through it all.

From Umling La to peaceful valleys, Nikita and Manas embraced the spirit of Ladakh with every mile

Acclimatising to Ladakh, One Valley at a Time

Nikita embraced Ladakh's peaceful spirit

Their first day in Leh, as explained by the team before their departure, wasn’t about heavy sightseeing or excursions but to let their bodies get adjusted to the altitude of over 11,000 ft before travelling even higher.

After a smooth airport transfer and hotel check-in, they spent the rest of their day at an easy pace and covered Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace before ending their day with a casual stroll in the lively Leh Market. It was the ideal introduction to a journey that would soon take them into some of India's highest and most remote landscapes.

The following morning marked the true beginning of their motorcycle expedition with four other travellers in their group. With their Royal Enfield Himalayan, Nikita and Manas followed the Indus Valley towards the Sham Valley with stops at Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, and the famous SECMOL campus, the one Nikita had seen numerous times on 3 Idiots.

By the time they rode back into Leh, they felt settled into the Himalayas' rhythm, not just because of the scenic landscapes but also how the team had ensured their comfort with consistent monitoring for their safety.

From Khardung La to Hanle: Riding Deeper into the Himalayas

Snowfall made Umling La even more special

Riding across Khardung La Pass, one of the world’s highest all-season motorable roads at 5,359 metres, Nikita and Manas knew this was where their expedition would truly begin.

With their descent into Nubra Valley, Nikita saw countless landscape variations around her with measured yet unhurried en route stops that pulled them deeper into Ladakh’s culture. The calmness of the towering Maitreya Buddha overlooking Diskit Monastery and the white sand of Hunder Cold Desert with double-humped Bactrian camels and ATV trails were experiences that entirely contradicted each other.

But this contrast was what made Nikita realise the landscape variations of the destination, how a single place can drench her in adrenaline and calm her down entirely within a single day, and she welcomed all of it by ending the day beside the Shyok River.

The most-awaited leg of the journey, the Umling La excursion, came the day after they covered the more remote areas of Hamle with stops at the Rezang La War Memorial and Indian Astronomical Observatory and felt wonderfully isolated, with vast open landscapes and remarkably clear skies.

The Peak of Their Ladakh Adventure

Nature welcomed Nikita and Manas

The ride to Umling La was the moment the entire journey had been building towards. Reaching an altitude of nearly 5,883 metres via motorbike and feeling the wind gushing past his face, it was far more than checking off a landmark for Manas.

The roads were challenging, the air noticeably thinner, and the landscapes almost otherworldly, with vast stretches of barren mountains extending to the horizon. Standing at the summit carried a quiet sense of achievement that no photograph could fully capture.

Unlike the bustling mountain passes they had crossed earlier, Umling La felt remote and untouched, allowing Nikita and Manas to pause, take in the immense Himalayan panorama, and appreciate just how far the journey had brought them.

Recounting How Thrillophilia Handled it All, Even the Unexpected

Manas had always known he wanted to cover the excursion to Umling La since before the beginning of the trip planning, but what he didn’t know was how to trust a travel partner to seamlessly execute the minute logistics that make or break this excursion.

But that changed after he started their journey with the team. Not only did they carry each trip aspect with end-to-end coverage but also handled every situation with professionalism and precision, even the ones that seemed unexpected to Nikita.

“So they have a backup vehicle in which they carry an oxygen cylinder, and they also carry spare parts like tyres and all. So everything is covered end-to-end." Manas recounted in their Ladakh review video as Nikita added, "Like, literally Thrillophilia had handled all the situations that were unexpected. So, a great shout-out to that time.”

Nikita further recounted how every amenity was managed thoroughly throughout the trip, leaving them with nothing to worry about but enjoying themselves to the best of their abilities, and that’s exactly what they did.

Nikita’s and Manas' Ladakh video review ended on a note of recommendation. One that promised the same care that they received from the team to every traveller who was to follow them.

“It was a really awesome trip, so I'll recommend everybody to go with Thrillophilia for sure for a Ladakh trip because it was a 10 out of 10! Thank you, Thrillophilia, for making our memories.”
