“All Indians dream of visiting Ladakh at least once in their lifetime. I, too, dreamt the same.”
This is how Rubina felt about this trip. It wasn’t something she wanted to do for a change of scenery or for the sake of travelling, but a goal which she had worked towards for some time now. So, for her and Rahul, the trip needed to be perfect.
And that’s exactly what Shivam, their destination expert, delivered. It started with planning the itinerary with a route that would complement the travellers’ pace and preferences while making the most of all the 8 days they were going to be touring for.
With all logistics sorted in advance, permits arranged before departure, and accommodations chosen for comfort and accessibility, it was everything Rubina expected and more.
But that was just the beginning.
From Khardung La to Hanle, Rubina & Rahul discovered Ladakh beyond the ordinary
Settling into Leh and Discovering Sham Valley
After arriving in Leh and getting transferred to their centrally located hotel in a private vehicle, they spent the rest of the day taking it easy and allowing themselves to acclimatise to the altitude, as recommended by the team. They wandered through Leh Market in the evening, browsed local Tibetan handicrafts, and visited the Shanti Stupa and the Leh Palace, both offering a relaxed start that helped them ease into the journey that was to follow.
The following day took them deeper into the region as they explored Sham Valley. Travelling through dramatic mountain roads, they stopped at the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers, witnessed the fascinating optical illusion of Magnetic Hill, and visited Gurudwara Pathar Sahib. The SECMOL campus, known from 3 Idiots, added a familiar touch, while the Hall of Fame War Memorial offered a moving insight into the sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces in the region.
Later that evening, Rahul and Rubina came back with the contentment of two travellers who now knew their trip was going to be executed exactly how they envisioned it.
Across Khardung La into Nubra's Cold Desert

The drive from Leh to Nubra Valley became one of the defining experiences of Rahul's and Rubina's journey. Crossing the legendary Khardung La Pass, they watched the landscape transform from rocky mountain roads to the wide valleys of Nubra, making every turn feel like a new postcard.
But what particularly stood out to Rubina was how smooth the trip’s flow had felt so far despite their tight itinerary. Rubina was prepared for a physically heavy-hitting itinerary which would leave her exhausted by the end of the day, but after three days under the team’s planning, she realised she should’ve set the bar a lot higher.
By the evening, they reached the Hunder Sand Dunes, where the contrast of the rolling cold desert sands framed by snow-capped mountains was unlike anything they had seen before.
Watching double-humped Bactrian camels wander across the dunes and seeing travellers enjoy ATV rides added to the uniqueness of the place. As evening approached, they checked into their riverside camp along the Shyok River, where they spent their night directly under the stars.
Beyond Pangong into the Quiet Heart of Hanle

Leaving Nubra behind, Rahul and Rubina travelled through the remote villages of Agham and Shyok, watching Ladakh's rugged terrain gradually give way to the vast blue expanse of Pangong. Reaching the lakeside camp, they finally saw the famous high-altitude lake changing shades with the shifting sunlight in person, which Rubina had only seen in pictures so far.
As evening settled over the mountains, the silence around the lake and a night spent camping beside its shores became one of the most peaceful moments of their journey.
The adventure continued towards Hanle, a part of Ladakh that feels far removed from the usual tourist trail. En route, they paused at the Rezang La War Memorial, where stories of extraordinary courage added a meaningful dimension to the landscape around them. In Hanle, a visit to the Indian Astronomical Observatory offered a glimpse into one of the world's highest observatories, where the region's clear skies make it ideal for astronomical research.
From the World's Highest Road Back to Leh

The journey to Umling La became the defining achievement of Rahul and Rubina's Ladakh adventure. As their vehicle climbed towards the world's highest motorable pass, every kilometre brought thinner air and even grander Himalayan panoramas.
The following day, they began the scenic return to Leh, taking a slower route through Chumathang Valley, something which their driver recommended before their departure that day. One last stop to bring the trip to a peaceful end.
Before reaching Leh, they stopped at the beautiful Thiksey Monastery, where ancient murals, towering statues, and the peaceful atmosphere provided a fitting conclusion to their journey. It was a reflective end to a trip that had taken them from iconic mountain passes and pristine lakes to some of the most remote corners of the Himalayas.
The next day, they flew back home, and a call from the team ensured their safe arrival. And that’s how Rubina knew the trip really was over.
Recounting the Trip and Thrillophilia’s Contribution
In her Ladakh video review, Rubina highlighted how Thrillophilia took them through the entire circuit, including the heights of Khardung La and Umling La, the sand dunes of Nubra Valley, and the changing colours of Pangong, while always keeping an eye out to ensure their comfort throughout the trip.
Every on-trip personnel member was chosen specifically as per our travellers’ preferences, because they are what defines the entire trip experience, as Rubin has come to realise, and her experience was something that she would be holding onto for the years to come, and rightfully so.
Rubina ended her review by earnestly thanking Thrillophilia for fulfilling her dream of travelling to Ladakh and for being responsible for the execution of it all.
She was glad to have met us, and we are too.
