Anirudh usually liked having a proper plan for trips. He was the kind of person who checked timings twice, saved locations, and made sure nothing was left uncertain.

This time was different.

For their trip to Mauritius, he and Gargi decided to keep things simple. They booked Thrillophilia's Mauritius tour packages, glanced through the itinerary once, and then stopped overthinking it.

“Let’s not overdo it this time,” Gargi had said.

He agreed, but he did not realise then how much that one decision would change the way they experienced the trip.

It Started With Something Small, But Stayed

Their stay at Pearle Beach Resort & Spa felt comfortable right from the beginning. The check-in was smooth, the room was exactly what they expected, and the beach being so close made everything feel lighter.

But the first real moment that stayed with them came that evening at dinner.

They quickly realised that finding proper vegetarian food was not as easy as they had assumed. There were a few options, but nothing that felt complete or familiar. For a while, they kept going back and forth on the menu, unsure of what would actually work.

The staff noticed.

Instead of just suggesting something basic, the chef came out, spoke to them, and asked what kind of food they preferred back home. It was a simple conversation, but it changed the experience. Over the next few days, meals were adjusted specially for them. Some dishes were not even on the menu, but were prepared just to make sure they were comfortable.

By the second day, what started as a concern had quietly turned into one of the most thoughtful parts of the trip.

Not Doing Everything Felt Right

At Ile Aux Cerfs, there was energy everywhere.

People were lining up for parasailing, rushing towards speedboats, calling out to each other, trying to fit in as much as possible. For a moment, Anirudh felt they should also try everything since they were already there.

He even suggested a couple of activities.

Gargi looked around, then back at the water, and said, “Or we could just not do anything.”

They both laughed, but then they actually did just that.

They walked slowly along the shore, stopped wherever they felt like, and spent a long time just standing in the water without any plan. No checklist, no rush, no feeling of missing out.

At one point, Anirudh realised he had stopped checking the time completely.

That rarely happened.

A Different Side of Mauritius

The North tour, especially around Port Louis, felt like a shift.

Till then, Mauritius had been about calm beaches and open views. But here, it felt active, lived-in, and real. At Place D’Armes, they paused without any reason, just watching people move through their day.

There was something interesting about standing still in a place that clearly had its own pace.

Later, at La Citadel, they looked out over the city.

“This is not what I expected Mauritius to be like,” Gargi said.

And that made it better.

The Quietest Moments Stayed the Longest

The South tour slowed things down again.

At Grand Bassin, the atmosphere felt different. People spoke softly, walked slowly, and naturally gave space to the place.

Gargi stood near the water for quite some time. Anirudh joined her, but neither of them said anything. It did not feel awkward. It felt right.

At Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth, the colours looked almost unreal. He tried clicking a few photos, then stopped.

“It’s not coming the same,” he said.

Gargi just nodded.

Some things are better experienced than captured.

The Day That Had Nothing Planned

By Day 5, they had stopped thinking about what they were supposed to do.

They went back to Flic en Flac and walked along the same stretch they had seen on their first day. This time, it felt different. More familiar, more comfortable.

They even found the same spot where they had sat earlier.

“Feels like we’ve been here longer than five days,” Gargi said.

Anirudh agreed.

Time had slowed down in a way they did not expect.

What They Took Back With Them

On the last day, there was no rush to squeeze in anything extra.

They packed slowly, had breakfast without checking their phones, and took one last look at the beach before leaving.

Later, when friends asked about the trip, Anirudh didn’t start with places or activities. He spoke about how easy everything felt. How even small challenges, like food, were handled with care.

And somewhere in that conversation, he mentioned Thrillophilia again, not as something they had booked, but as a part of the trip that made things smooth without needing constant attention.

Because in the end, this was not about doing the most.

It was about feeling comfortable, unhurried, and present.

And somehow, that stayed with them longer than anything else.
