“We had a great time during our trip. The hotels that were provided were good and had a good view of mountains and valleys.”

A mountain holiday has a way of changing pace as soon as the city disappears behind you. The roads become quieter, the air gets cooler, and suddenly the view outside the window is filled with forests, valleys and distant peaks.

Ashwini Deo’s five-day Uttarakhand getaway was built around exactly that feeling. The journey brought together the lakes of Nainital and Bhimtal, the forests and waterfalls around the Kumaon hills, and the peaceful landscapes of Kausani. Comfortable mountain-view stays, good food and a driver who doubled up as a local guide added to the experience.

From a sunset boat ride on Naini Lake to tea estates, pine forests and the rushing waters of Corbett Waterfall, there was plenty to discover along the way.

Here’s how Ashwini’s Uttarakhand holiday with Thrillophilia unfolded.

Nainital Began With Lakeside Views & a Sunset on the Water

Ashwini’s Uttarakhand journey, soaking in the serene beauty of Nainital’s misty lake views

The first day introduced Ashwini to Nainital at its most classic.

Naini Lake sat at the centre of the town, surrounded by green slopes and the activity of Mall Road. After settling in, a visit to Naina Devi Temple brought a peaceful beginning to the holiday. The temple, one of the Shakti Peethas, sits beside the lake and is closely connected with the legend of Goddess Sati.

As evening approached, the lake became even more beautiful. A boat ride offered changing views of the surrounding hills, with the soft evening light settling over the water. It was an easy, unhurried way to begin several days in the mountains.

Bhimtal & Nainital Turned Into a Day of Exploration

The next morning brought another lake, this time with a quieter atmosphere.

Bhimtal is the largest lake in the Kumaon region, surrounded by forested hills. A boat ride across the water offered beautiful views of the landscape, while the small island in the middle of the lake houses an aquarium.

Back in Nainital, the sightseeing became more adventurous. Cave Garden's interconnected caves created an unusual little exploration, with formations resembling animals such as panthers and tigers.

The day continued through Lover's Point, Land's End and Snow Point, where the views opened towards the Kumaon mountain ranges. For an even higher perspective, horse rides to Tiffin Top and Naina Peak added another memorable mountain experience.

Kausani Brought Tea Estates, Pine Forests & a Quieter Side of the Hills

Ashwini’s Uttarakhand escape, surrounded by lush valleys, winding roads and breathtaking Himalayan views

The journey to Kausani gradually left the busier hill-station atmosphere behind.

The Kausani Tea Estate offered one of the most relaxed experiences of the trip. Walking through the plantations surrounded by mountain scenery and stopping for a fresh cup of tea made the morning feel wonderfully slow.

The town also carried a strong connection with Mahatma Gandhi. At Anasakti Ashram, Ashwini could learn about Gandhi's stay in Kausani and the time he spent writing Anasakti Yog.

Later, Rudradhari Falls and Caves added a touch of adventure. Hidden among thick pine forests, the waterfalls created a beautiful natural setting where the sound of rushing water blended with the forest around it.

An evening exploring Kausani's local markets brought the day to a gentle close.

Corbett Added Waterfalls & a Final Taste of the Wild

The final leg of the journey brought Ashwini to Corbett, but the highlight here was not the safari.

Girija Devi Temple offered a striking setting, built on a rocky island in the middle of the Kosi River. Surrounded by flowing water and forested hills, the temple made for a peaceful stop. Corbett Waterfall was another standout. Tucked inside dense teak forests, the waterfall was surrounded by birdsong and greenery. The sound of water rushing over the rocks made it an easy place to slow down and simply enjoy the surroundings. The journey back to Delhi marked the end of five days spent among lakes, forests, waterfalls and mountain valleys.

Why Ashwini Recommends Thrillophilia for Your Next Trip to  Uttarakhand

For Ashwini, the experience was strengthened by the details that made the journey comfortable from one destination to the next. The hotels offered good mountain and valley views, the food was delicious, and the vehicle remained in good condition throughout the trip.

His driver, Akash, became an important part of the experience. With good knowledge of the local area, he helped Ashwini discover places along the route and played the role of a guide as well as a driver. His local understanding allowed the trip to feel more exploratory rather than simply following a sightseeing list.

Ashwini's feedback captures the overall experience clearly:

“We had a great time during our trip. The hotels that were provided to us were good and had good views of mountains and valleys. Food was delicious, and overall, the staff was courteous. The vehicle provided to us was in good condition, and our driver, Akash, was very nice. He had knowledge of local places and played the role of guide very well.
