Planning a family holiday often means thinking about much more than where to go. There are transfers to coordinate, sightseeing days to organise, hotels to manage and plenty of small details that can shape how comfortable the trip feels.

For Arumugam and his family, the planning began with Shubham, Thrillophilia’s Bali Expert, and continued with a local team that stayed involved throughout their seven days on the island. Once they arrived, their driver Kadek became a familiar face on the road, accompanying them through early starts, long sightseeing days and different corners of Bali.

What followed was a holiday filled with contrasts. Mountain landscapes gave way to rice terraces, waterfalls and temples before the family crossed the sea to explore Nusa Penida. There were wildlife encounters, time around Benoa's waters and plenty of opportunities to simply take in Bali's scenery.

By the end of the trip, the places mattered, but so did the people who had been there along the way.

A Morning Above Lake Batur

One of the most varied experiences began in Kintamani, where the family reached a viewpoint overlooking Lake Batur and the volcanic landscape around Mount Batur.

The scenery changed as they continued towards a coffee and spice plantation, followed by the lush terraces of Tegalalang. The layered rice fields brought them into one of Bali's most recognisable agricultural landscapes before the journey moved towards Tegenungan Waterfall.

The day ended on a lighter note at the Bali Jungle Swing. With multiple swings and photo nests surrounded by greenery, the family could enjoy the landscape from above while taking a break from the sightseeing routine. A local lunch and Balinese coffee, tea and water rounded off a day that brought together some of Bali's most varied inland experiences.

Three Landscapes, One Day

Another day brought a completely different side of Bali.

The morning began at Handara Gate, set among the cool highlands of Bedugul. Its traditional Balinese split-gate architecture stood against a backdrop of greenery and mountains, creating a striking entrance to the region.

From there, the family continued to Ulun Danu Beratan, the famous lakeside temple complex beside Lake Bratan. With the temple, water and surrounding highlands forming one scene, it offered a quieter experience than the bustling attractions elsewhere on the island.

By evening, the landscape had changed once again. At Tanah Lot, the family reached the coast in time for sunset, when the temple's silhouette stood against the ocean. In a single day, Bali had taken them from mountain roads to a highland lake and finally to the sea.

The Day Nusa Penida Took Over

Nusa Penida brought the trip's biggest adventure.

After crossing from mainland Bali by boat, the family explored the island's western coast, beginning with Kelingking Beach. Its famous T-Rex-shaped headland rises dramatically above the turquoise sea, creating one of the most recognisable views in the region.

The journey continued to Angel's Billabong and Broken Bay, where cliffs, rock formations and open water dominated the landscape. At Bubu Beach, the family got closer to the water itself, with time for swimming and the possibility of snorkelling.

This was also where another person became part of Arumugam's memories of Bali. Nupel, the local person accompanying them on Nusa Penida, was specifically appreciated for being friendly, helping with the island experience and ensuring the family returned on time for their journey back.

For a family exploring a new island, having someone there to guide them through the day's movements added another layer of comfort.

From Wild Animals to Turtle Island

Bali then changed pace again with a visit to Bali Safari.

The Jungle Hopper experience took the family through a safari journey featuring a variety of animals, along with an animal show, big-cat presentation and elephant show. After several days of temples and landscapes, the wildlife experience brought a completely different energy to the holiday.

The following day shifted from land to sea at Benoa, where the family experienced a glass-bottom boat and visited Turtle Island.

The glass-bottom boat offered views beneath the water without having to leave the boat, while Turtle Island brought the family closer to Bali's marine environment. Together, these experiences added wildlife and ocean encounters to a trip that had already covered Bali's mountains, forests, temples and beaches.
