"A Trip of Peace with Nature."

That was the title Prabhash chose for his TripAdvisor review after returning from Kerala.

Over five days, Prabhash Kumar and Jyoti Kumari travelled through Munnar, Thekkady, and Alleppey, experiencing some of the state's most beautiful landscapes. From mist-covered hills and tea plantations to local villages and peaceful backwaters, the journey offered a refreshing break from routine and a chance to experience Kerala beyond its most famous postcards.

Kerala is often called God's Own Country, and from the moment they arrived, it became easy to see why.

Kerala Welcomed Them With Rain and Mountains

One of the first memories from the trip came before the sightseeing had even begun.

As Prabhash later shared in his TripAdvisor review:

— Prabhash Kumar, Kerala Trip Review on TripAdvisor

"We went to visit God's Own Country in the best season possible and were welcomed by rain from the moment we landed at Cochin Airport."

The drive towards Munnar felt like a continuation of that welcome. Rain-washed roads wound through the hills while waterfalls flowed at full force along the route. Stops at Cheeyappara and Valara Waterfalls offered the perfect introduction to Kerala's monsoon beauty, with clouds hanging low over the surrounding landscape.

Munnar itself delivered the kind of scenery that travellers often associate with Kerala. Endless tea plantations stretched across the hills, viewpoints opened up to layers of mist-covered mountains, and every drive seemed to reveal another breathtaking view.

One of the highlights was the early morning excursion to Kolukkumalai. Watching the first rays of sunlight slowly break through the clouds created one of the most memorable moments of the trip. Later visits to the Tata Tea Museum, local viewpoints, and a chocolate factory added variety to the experience, but it was the atmosphere of Munnar itself that left the strongest impression.

The Kerala That Most Travellers Don't See

Meeting Kerala's gentle giants was one of the most unforgettable moments of the journey

Every destination has its famous attractions.

Sometimes, however, the experiences that stay with travellers the longest are the unexpected ones.

A large part of that credit went to Rajak, who became far more than just a driver during the journey.

As Prabhash wrote:

"Rajak, our cab driver, guide and trip advisor, was a great one to have and made us visit places which were unique."

Beyond the usual sightseeing stops, Rajak introduced the couple to experiences that felt far more personal. Visits to a traditional Punjarin village and a silk handloom village offered a glimpse into everyday life in Kerala. Instead of simply moving between attractions, they were able to experience local communities, traditional craftsmanship, and a slower pace of life that many visitors rarely encounter.

These moments added a different dimension to the trip. They reminded them that Kerala's charm isn't limited to its landscapes alone; it is equally present in its people, traditions, and small communities.

From Forest Trails to Alleppey's Backwaters

Delicate, vibrant, and effortlessly beautiful

The journey continued towards Thekkady, where Kerala revealed another side of itself.

The tea-covered hills gradually gave way to forests, spice plantations, and wildlife-rich landscapes. Around Periyar Lake, the scenery felt quieter and more rugged than Munnar, offering a completely different experience.

One of the highlights here was the off-road exploration around Thekkady. Venturing off the main roads allowed them to discover hidden corners of the region and experience nature in a more raw, untouched setting.

From there, the trip moved towards Alleppey.

For many travellers, the backwaters are the heart of Kerala, and it was easy to understand why. Life seemed to move at its own pace. Villages lined the waterways, fishing boats drifted past, and coconut trees reflected in the calm waters.

For Prabhash and Jyoti, the houseboat experience became one of the most relaxing parts of the journey. After days spent exploring hills, viewpoints, and forest trails, slowing down on the backwaters felt like the perfect way to experience Kerala. Watching village life unfold from the deck while cruising through the waterways became one of those simple yet memorable travel moments that stay with people long after a trip ends.

What Made them Choose Thrillophilia ?

A sea of green beneath the majestic hills of Kerala

Looking back, the destinations were only one part of the experience.

Good planning and local expertise played an equally important role.

The itinerary was coordinated by Vanshika Agarwal from the Thrillophilia team, bringing together Kerala's hills, forests, villages, and backwaters into a seamless five-day journey. On the ground, Rajak's local knowledge helped transform the trip into something more immersive, introducing experiences that went beyond standard sightseeing.

Reflecting on the journey, Prabhash shared:

"So, where to start? From the day we began our trip to the very end, it was all great. I liked the trip itinerary. Our guide or driver friend Rajak took us to the places we went, from the misty mountains to the traditional Punjarin village and to the backwaters in Alleppey, along with the off-road at Thekkady, so we enjoyed all."

Like many honest travel reviews, he also felt there were a few aspects of the trip that could have been improved. Yet what stayed with them most were the experiences that came before! The misty mountains of Munnar, the local villages, the forests of Thekkady, the peaceful backwaters of Alleppey, and the feeling of being surrounded by nature throughout the journey.

For the couple, Kerala delivered exactly what the review's title promised: a trip of peace with nature.
