Someone always has a different pace. Someone wants more time at one stop than the group has. Someone needs an extra room. The logistics of moving nine adults for a 7-day Kerala tour package, with a luxury houseboat in the middle and a beach resort at the end, need planning that actually holds together rather than planning that looks good in a document.

Munnar was the start
The Force Urbania was at Cochin International Airport when the group landed on the 8th of January. Nine people, one vehicle, private transfer all the way.
The drive to Munnar does not go directly. It stops. Neriamangalam Bridge first, then Cheeyappara Waterfalls and Valara Waterfalls, the two that run in a cascade on the roadside and pull every passing vehicle over. Pottas Fun Farm was the midday stop, where the zipline and the fish spa kept different members of the group occupied. Then Athirappilly Waterfalls before the climb into the hills.

Day two was the full Munnar circuit. Tata Tea Museum in the morning, then Kanan Devan Plantation and Macofa Chocolate Factory, where the tasting goes on longer than most people plan for, the 2nd Mile View Point; Blossom Park; Carmelagiri Elephant Park; Mattupetty Dam; Echo Point; Yellapatty Grassland; and Kundala Lake. Eleven stops across eight hours.
In January, Munnar is cool enough that the full day does not drain you the way it would in summer. The group was back at the hotel before dark.
Thekkady Was the Quieter Day
Day three was the drive from Munnar to Thekkady through the cardamom hills, with the sightseeing tour on arrival. Periyar National Park, Periyar Lake and Elephant Junction. The boat safari at Periyar Lake runs slowly through the forested shoreline, and the elephants that come down to the water in the afternoon do not seem to notice the boats.
Green Wood Resort for one night and one night for exploring a proper Thekkady tour package is the right amount when the group still has Alleppey and Kovalam ahead.
The Houseboat Night Was the Centre of the Trip
Day four was the transfer to Alleppey and the check-in at the luxury houseboat at 1 PM.
The houseboat is the one night of a Kerala trip that nobody is neutral about afterwards. All meals included. The boat moves through the backwater canals at a pace that has no equivalent on land. Village life visible on both banks. Fishing nets. Children waving from the shore. Lunch is cooked onboard with fish bought from boats that pull alongside. Dinner on the deck as the sun dropped.
Nine people on a luxury houseboat in the Alleppey backwaters in January. The group probably talked about this night for weeks after getting home.
Kovalam Brought the Sea
Day five came with the Jatayu Earth Centre en route to Kovalam. The Jatayu sculpture sits on a hilltop in Chadayamangalam and is the largest bird sculpture in the world. You reach it by cable car, and the view from the hilltop goes across the surrounding landscape in every direction. Then, the half-day Kovalam sightseeing on arrival.
Gokulam Grand Turtle on the Beach for two nights. Arabian Sea view rooms. Four rooms for nine guests, all looking out at the water.
Day six was the full Kovalam sightseeing tour. Lighthouse Beach, Hawa Beach, Samudra Beach and the Azhimala Shiva Temple. January is the best time to be in Kovalam. The sea is calm, the air is cooler than in the summer months, and the beaches are not crowded yet.
The temple closed for the trip
Day seven was the Padmanabhaswamy Temple visit on the way to Trivandrum airport. The reclining Vishnu deity inside the sanctum is one of the important Vaishnav shrines in the country, and the group had it on the list specifically before the end of their Kerala tour package.
