Ritika Singh hadn't really considered Kerala until Pankaj, her destination expert at Thrillophilia, brought it up.
Traveling with her husband Ruel and their eight-year-old daughter Vanessa, she wanted something that worked for all three of them, not too packed for a child, not too slow for the adults.
Five days later, she'd say it herself in her review. If Pankaj hadn't suggested this particular Kerala tour, she never would have discovered a place this beautiful.
Where the Road Trip Turns Scenic
The trip began on the 1st of October, landing in Kochi and driving straight into the hills toward Munnar. It wasn't a boring drive either. Stops came along the way at Neriamangalam Bridge, then the Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls, cascading right along the roadside.
Vanessa's favorite part of the day, unsurprisingly, was Pottas Fun Farm. Ziplining and a fish spa gave an eight-year-old exactly the kind of break and fun a long car ride usually needs. By evening, the family had checked into Amuse Vista Resorts and Spa, tired in a good way but not a bit less excited for the next day.
Tea, Chocolate and a View Worth the Climb
Day two stayed in Munnar, and it turned into one long, easy day of moving from one pretty stop to the next. The Tata Tea Museum came first, giving a quick sense of how the region's tea culture actually works.
From there it was on to Macofa Chocolate Factory, which Vanessa apparently had opinions about, all of them enthusiastic. Yellapatty Grassland and the 2nd Mile viewpoint rounded off the afternoon, the kind of views that make you stop talking for a minute without meaning to.
Slowing Down on the Backwaters
Day three shifted the whole mood of the trip. Checking out of Munnar, the family made their way to Alleppey for a night aboard a deluxe houseboat, gliding through backwaters and past floating villages.
Meals came included this time: breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all served right on the boat. For a family that had spent two days moving between hill stations, an evening of doing absolutely nothing except watching the water go by was probably exactly what was needed.
Cliffs and Sea Breeze
By day four, the trip had moved to Varkala, known for its cliffs overlooking the Arabian Sea. Varkala Beach and Kappil Beach filled the afternoon, and the evening slowed down even further with a walk past the cliffside cafes.
There's a particular kind of calm to Varkala that's hard to explain to someone who hasn't been. The Singh family got an evening of exactly that before settling in for the night at West Bay Marisol.
The Last Morning
The fifth and final day was kept simple on purpose. Breakfast, checkout, and a transfer back to Kochi for the flight home. Five days had gone by fast, the way good trips tend to.
The Two People Who Made It Work
Two people came up more than once in Ritika's review, and both deserve a mention. Pankaj, for suggesting Kerala in the first place when she hadn't thought of it herself, and their driver, who she described as being like great company for the whole trip.
According to Ritika, his experience on the road meant the family covered far more ground than she'd expected within the time they had, and his driving stayed smooth and easy throughout. For a trip with an eight-year-old in the back seat, that kind of steady, unhurried driving mattered more than it might for other travelers.
Why Thrillophilia Gets the Kerala Tour Right
A good Kerala tour itinerary needs more than a list of scenic stops. It needs someone who actually understands which combination works for a specific family, and someone reliable enough on the ground to make that plan hold up in practice.
That's exactly what happened here. Pankaj matched the itinerary to a family traveling with a young child, balancing hill station sightseeing with slower, more restful days by the backwaters and the coast. The driver assigned through Thrillophilia turned out to be just as important, someone experienced enough to manage the pace without ever making the days feel rushed.
“First of all...thanks to Pankaj for making this plan for my family...if he would hv not have suggested...I would have never been able to explore such a beautiful place. Plus, the driver was superb...he was a great company..with his enriched experience..we were able to cover a lot of places within time limits...his driving was super cool .. accommodation was also nice…” says Ritika after the trip.
So, you're planning a Kerala tour with family and want an itinerary that's actually built around your pace and preferences, not just handling the checklists of to-dos, not just where you're going; that's the difference a good destination expert and the right person behind the wheel can make.
