Package: Darjeeling Revealed: Embarking on an Enchanting 6 Days Journey
Sarang Sorte knew coordinating a multi-city itinerary with a young child takes more planning than most people expect when he started planning a March 2025 trip for himself, his partner Sneha and their seven-year-old daughter Ayra. He got in touch with Thrillophilia, spoke to Gautam Kumar, and a six-day private itinerary across Darjeeling, Gangtok, and Kalimpong came together from there.
The trip covered three destinations in six days: two nights in Darjeeling, two in Gangtok and one in Kalimpong, with a private car for the entire duration. It was Ayra's first time seeing snow. It was also, in Sarang's words, after the trip, the kind of holiday where he never had to worry about anything.
Darjeeling’s Sunrise Views, Monasteries and Himalayan Charm

They arrived in Darjeeling on the afternoon of 18th March, the drive from Bagdogra following the Teesta River through the valley before the road climbed into the hills. The views on the way up are the kind that make you stop reaching for your phone and just look.
Day two started at 4 AM. Tiger Hill for sunrise is one of those early starts that nobody is enthusiastic about when the alarm goes off and everybody is grateful for by the time the light hits Kanchenjunga. The mountain range catching the first pink and gold of dawn from Tiger Hill is not a view that needs description.
The rest of day two covered Batasia Loop, the tea estates, and the monastery circuit. Ghoom Monastery was where the family spent the most time. The monastery houses a 15-foot Maitreya Buddha statue made from clay brought from Tibet, and the interior is as vivid and detailed as anything you will find in the region.
The Japanese Temple and Peace Pagoda were the afternoon stops. The shrine carried a sense of calm that stood apart from the busier parts of the day, and for a family travelling with a seven-year-old, those quiet moments in between sightseeing made a real difference.

Travelling with children in a private vehicle made the entire day far more manageable. They paused whenever needed, skipped stops that weren't connecting, and adjusted the pace based on how much energy everyone had left. Ayra, at seven, comfortably managed the full day.
Gangtok’s Snowy Roads, Frozen Lakes and Mountain Adventures
Day three was the transfer from Darjeeling to Gangtok. The two cities sit in different directions from each other, and the drive between them is a long one, but the roads through this part of the Northeast carry their own quality.
Day four was the Gangtok sightseeing day. Tsomgo Lake was the first stop, sitting quietly at around 12,400 feet and surrounded by mountains. Baba Mandir followed, the high-altitude shrine where the story of Baba Harbhajan Singh has been kept alive by the soldiers stationed in this part of the Himalayas for decades. Most visitors spend more time there than they planned to.
For families travelling with young children, the Tsomgo and Baba Mandir day trip is absolutely worth doing, even if the altitude feels a little intimidating at first. With a private vehicle handling the journey, the day becomes much more comfortable. The mountain roads are scenic but manageable, and somewhere along this route, Ayra experienced snow properly for the first time. That ended up becoming one of the family’s favourite memories from the trip.
Kalimpong’s Quiet Hills, Nurseries, and Colonial Charm
Day five was the move to Kalimpong. One night, one day, and a town that consistently surprises people who arrive expecting a brief stopover.
The sightseeing in Kalimpong covered the main monastery, the Morgan House, and a walk through the nursery streets that the town is known for. Ayra, predictably, was more interested in the plants than the colonial history. The nurseries are genuinely worth the time, not just as a visual but as a reminder that this small hill town quietly supplies flowers to much of the country.

How Thrillophilia Made It Seamless
Gautam Kumar had handled the booking perfectly, putting together a private itinerary for three across six days with a single car throughout. Inner Line Permits for the Gangtok excursion were included and arranged in advance.
Before the trip, Thrillophilia shared emergency contact details, including the local ground operator, the driver's direct number, medical facility information for Darjeeling and Gangtok, and the Thrillophilia 24-hour support line. For a family travelling with a young child in a region where roads can be unpredictable, and connectivity is patchy in parts, having that information on hand before you leave Maharashtra changes the comfort level of the whole trip considerably.
Sarang's review came in on 27th March 2025, four days after the trip ended. He gave it five stars and kept the description simple. "Team has planned and executed the whole tour with amazing clarity," he wrote. "It was so seamless that I never had to worry about anything and could enjoy the trip", he added.
Six days, three cities, a seven-year-old seeing snow for the first time, sunrise over Kanchenjunga, a peaceful monastery filled with the scent of incense, and cactus-filled nurseries in a hill town many travellers overlook. Those are the memories the family returned home with.
